Surah Al-An'am • Ayah 4

Threatening the Idolators for their StubbornnessAllah states that the rebellious, stubborn polytheists will turn away from every Ayah, meaning, sign, miracle and proof that is evidence of Allah's Uniqueness and the truth of His honorable Messengers. They will not contemplate about these Ayat or care about them. Allah said, فَقَدْ كَذَّبُواْ بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِيهِمْ أَنْبَاءُ مَا كَانُواْ بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ (Indeed, they rejected the truth when it came to them, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to mock at.) This Ayah contains a warning and a stern threat for the disbelievers' rejection of the truth, stating that the disbelievers will surely know the truth of what they used to deny and taste the evil end of their behavior. Allah advises and warns the disbelievers, that they should avoid the torments and afflictions of this life, similar to what befell their likes from previous nations, who were stronger, wealthier, had more offspring, and were more exploitive on the earth. Allah said, أَلَمْ يَرَوْاْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ مَّكَّنَّـهُمْ فِى الاٌّرْضِ مَا لَمْ نُمَكِّن لَّكُمْ(Have they not seen how many a generation before them We have destroyed whom We had established on the earth such as We have not established you) meaning, they had more wealth, children, buildings, abundant provision, riches and soldiers. Allah said next, وَأَرْسَلْنَا السَّمَآءَ عَلَيْهِم مَّدْرَاراً(and We poured out on them rain from the sky in abundance, ) in reference to rain that comes often, وَجَعَلْنَا الاٌّنْهَـرَ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهِمْ(And made the rivers flow under them.) as rain was abundant and the springs were plentiful, so that We deceived them. فَأَهْلَكْنَـهُمْ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ(Yet We destroyed them for their sins) meaning the mistakes and errors that they committed, وَأَنْشَأْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْناً ءَاخَرِينَ(and created after them other generations,) for, these generations of old perished and became as legends and stories, وَأَنْشَأْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْناً ءَاخَرِينَ(And created after them other generations.) so that We test the new generations, as well. Yet, they committed similar errors and were destroyed, as their ancestors were destroyed. Therefore, beware of the same end that might befall you, for you are not dearer to Allah than these previous nations, but the Messenger whom you defied is dearer to Allah than the Messengers they defied. Thus, you are more liable than them to receive torment, if it was not for Allah's mercy and kindness.

کفار کو نافرمانی پر سخت انتباہ ٭٭کفار کی سرکشی کی انتہا بیان ہو رہی ہے کہ ہر امر کی تکذیب پر گویا انہوں نے کمر باندھ لی ہے، نیت کر کے بیٹھے ہیں کہ جو نشانی دیکھیں گے، اسی کا انکار کریں گے، ان کی یہ خطرناک روش انہیں ایک دن ذلیل کرے گی اور وہ ذائقہ آئے گا کہ ہونٹ کاٹتے رہیں، یہ یوں نہ سمجھیں کہ ہم نے انہیں چھوڑ دیا ہے نہیں بلکہ عنقریب انہیں اللہ کی پکڑ ہوگی، کیا ان سے پہلے کے ایسے سرکشوں کے حالات ان کے کان میں نہیں پڑے؟ کیا ان کے عبرتناک انجام ان کی نگاہوں کے سامنے نہیں؟ وہ تو قوت طاقت میں اور زور میں ان سے بہت بڑھے چڑھے ہوئے تھے، وہ اپنی رہائش میں اور زمین کو بسانے میں ان سے کہیں زیادہ آگے تھے، ان کے لاؤ لشکر، ان کی جاہ و عزت، غرور و تمکنت ان سے کہیں زیادہ تھی، ہم نے انہیں خوب مست بنا رکھا تھا، بارشیں پے در پے حسن ضرورت ان پر برابر برسا کرتی تھیں، زمین ہر وقت تروتازہ رہتی تھی چاروں طرف پانی کی ریل پیل کی وجہ سے آبشاریں اور چشمے صاف شفاف پانی کے بہتے رہتے تھے۔ جب وہ تکبر میں آ گئے، ہماری نشانیوں کی حقارت کرنے لگے تو آخر نتیجہ یہ ہوا کہ برباد کر دیئے گئے۔ تہس نہس ہو گئے، بھوسی اڑ گئی۔ لوگوں میں ان کے فسانے باقی رہ گئے اور ان میں سے ایک بھی نہ بچا حرف غلط کی طرح صفحہ ہستی سے مٹا دیئے گئے اور ان کے بعد ان کے قائم مقام اور زمانہ آیا۔ اگر وہ بھی اسی روش پر چلا تو یہی سلوک ان کے ساتھی بھی ہوتا، اتنی نظریں جب تمہاری آنکھوں کے سامنے موجود ہیں پھر بھی تم عبرت حاصل نہیں کرتے، یہ کس قدر تمہاری غفلت ہے، یاد رکھو تم کچھ اللہ کے ایسے لاڈلے نہیں ہو کہ جن کاموں کی وجہ سے اوروں کو وہ تباہ کر دے وہ کام تم کرتے رہو اور تباہی سے بچ جاؤ۔ اسی طرح جن رسولوں کو جھٹلانے اور ان کو نہ ماننے کی وجہ سے وہ ہلاک ہوئے ان رسولوں سے کسی طرح یہ رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کم درجے کے نہیں بلکہ ان سے زیادہ اللہ کے ہاں یہ با عزت ہیں۔ یقین مانو کہ پہلوں سے بھی سخت اور نہایت سخت عذاب تم پر آئیں گے، پس تم اپنی اس غلط روش کو چھوڑ دو، یہ صرف اللہ تعالیٰ کا لطف و کرم ہے کہ اس نے تمہاری بدترین اور انتہائی شرارتوں کے باوجود تمہیں ڈھیل دے رکھی ہے۔صفحہ نمبر2532

آیت 4 وَمَا تَاْتِیْہِمْ مِّنْ اٰیَۃٍ مِّنْ اٰیٰتِ رَبِّہِمْ الاَّ کَانُوْا عَنْہَا مُعْرِضِیْنَ ۔ہم نئی سے نئی سورتیں بھیج رہے ہیں ‘ نئی سے نئی آیات نازل کر رہے ہیں ‘ لیکن اس کے باوجود یہ لوگ اعراض پر تلے ہوئے ہیں۔

The fourth verse carries a complaint against the anti-truth doggedness and obstinacy of the chronically heedless human race by saying:وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ آيَةٍ مِّنْ آيَاتِ رَ‌بِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِ‌ضِينَ ﴿4﴾ that is, despite the many clear proofs and open signs of the Oneness of Allah, the dissenters and rejectionists among human beings have taken to a way of their own, using which, they would turn their faces away from whatever sign is shown to them for their guidance, without ever paying the least attention to it.
