Surah Al-Isra • Ayah 58

The Destruction or Torment of all Disbelieving Towns before the Hour beginsHere Allah tells us that He has decreed and it is written in Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz (The Preserved Tablet) which is with Him, that there is no town that He will not destroy by wiping out all its people or by punishing them,عَذَاباً شَدِيداً(with a severe torment.) either by killing them or sending calamities upon them as He wills. This will be because of their sins, as Allah says of the past nations:وَمَا ظَلَمْنَـهُمْ وَلَـكِن ظَلَمُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ(We wronged them not, but they wronged themselves.) 11:101فَذَاقَتْ وَبَالَ أَمْرِهَا وَكَانَ عَـقِبَةُ أَمْرِهَا خُسْراً (So it tasted the evil result of its affair (disbelief), and the consequence of its affair (disbelief) was loss.) 65:9وَكَأِيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ عَتَتْ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِ(And many a town (population) revolted against the command of its Lord and His Messengers;) 65:8 and many Ayat.

بابوہ نوشتہ جو لوح محفوظ میں لکھ دیا گیا ہے وہ حکم جو جاری کر دیا گیا ہے، اس کا بیان اس آیت میں ہے کہ گنہگاروں کی بستیاں یقیناً ویران کر دی جائیں گی یا ان کے گناہوں کی وجہ سے تباہی کے قریب ہو جائیں گی، اس میں ہماری جانب سے کوئی ظلم نہ ہو گا بلکہ ان کے اپنے کرتوت کا خمیازہ ہو گا، ان کے اپنے اعمال کا وبال ہو گا، رب کی آیتوں اور اس کے رسولوں سے سرکشی کرنے کا پھل ہو گا۔صفحہ نمبر4728

آیت 58 وَاِنْ مِّنْ قَرْيَةٍ اِلَّا نَحْنُ مُهْلِكُوْهَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْقِيٰمَةِ اَوْ مُعَذِّبُوْهَا عَذَابًا شَدِيْدًا یہ اشارہ ہے اس بہت بڑی تباہی کی طرف جو قیامت سے پہلے اس دنیا پر آنے والی ہے۔ سورة الکہف کی دوسری آیت میں اس کا ذکر اس طرح کیا گیا ہے : لِیُنْذِرَ بَاْسًا شَدِیْدًا مِّنْ لَّدُنْہُ ۔ سورة بنی اسرائیل اور سورة الکہف کا آپس میں چونکہ زوجیت کا تعلق ہے اس لیے یہ مضمون ان دونوں آیات کو ملا کر پڑھنے سے واضح ہوتا ہے۔ احادیث میں الملحمۃ العُظمٰی کے نام سے ایک بہت بڑی جنگ کی پیشین گوئی کی گئی ہے جو قیامت سے پہلے دنیا میں برپا ہوگی۔ آیت زیر نظر میں اسی تباہی کا ذکر ہے جس سے روئے زمین پر موجود کوئی بستی محفوظ نہیں رہے گی۔ سورة الکہف میں زیادہ صراحت کے ساتھ اس کا تذکرہ آئے گا۔ اس وقت دنیا میں ایٹمی جنگ چھڑنے کا امکان ہر وقت موجود ہے۔ اگر خدانخواستہ کسی وقت ایسا سانحہ رونما ہوجاتا ہے تو ایٹمی ہتھیاروں کی وجہ سے دنیا پر جو تباہی آئے گی اس کو تصور میں لانا بھی مشکل ہے۔ ان حالات میں الملحمۃ العُظمٰی کے بارے میں پیشین گوئیاں آج مجسم صورت میں سامنے کھڑی نظر آتی ہیں۔كَانَ ذٰلِكَ فِي الْكِتٰبِ مَسْطُوْرًایعنی یہ طے شدہ امور میں سے ہے۔ ایک وقت معین پر یہ سب کچھ ہو کر رہنا ہے۔

CommentaryThe word 'al-wasilah' in: يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَىٰ رَ‌بِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ (seek the means of close ness to their Lord - 57) conveys the sense of that which is used as a means of reaching someone. As for reaching Allah, the wasilah or means is to always keep the pleasure of Allah in sight when learning or doing anything while adhering to the injunctions of the Shari` ah strictly. Thus, the sense of the sentence is that all of them are seeking the closeness of Allah Ta’ ala through their righteous deeds.About the sentence which follows immediately after: يَرْ‌جُونَ رَ‌حْمَتَهُ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُ (hope for His Mercy and fear His punishment - 57), Sahl ibn ` Abdullah said: Hope and Fear, that is, hoping for mercy from Allah as well as fearing Him are two different states one is in. When they stay at par, one keeps on course, correct and stable. And if any one of the two overcomes the other, one finds the equilibrium of his spiritual state subjected to disorder to the measure of that imbalance. (Qurtubi)
